Family Is What You Make It
I saw a great movie the other day that reminded me of families. It was The Judge, starring Robert Downing, Jr. and Robert Duvall. Robert, Jr. was his usual super hot self (“oh Iron Man, oh Iron Man”), but his hotness did not distract from the quality of his acting (no, really). Loved the movie. Loved the Downing. Loved the dysfunctional family.
As my kids have gotten older we have moved more and more away from traditional family gatherings. Our nuclear family split up with the divorce, and our kids spend one holiday with their pops and one holiday with me. My household currently consists of my cousin (who is my roomie), the kids and myself. At their dad’s house it is their dad and his partner.
We keep our Thanksgivings low key; their father invites a bunch of friends over. My kids have the best of both worlds.
They have two oddball families, with neither being traditional, anymore.
Here are some of my favorite oddball family videos: animals who have adopted others creatures as their own. Family is what you make it.
